POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Publications Manager REPORTS TO: Senior Director, Scientific Publications SUMMARY: Responsible for the management of the journals Techniques and Innovations in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Gastro Hep Advances Position Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Serves as managing editor of Techniques and Innovations in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (TIGE) and Gastro Hep Advances (GHA), which entails all matters related to the editorial, peer review, and production processes of the journal:
  • Directs all aspects of the peer review process using an online tracking and submission system, including monitoring submissions, notifying authors of journal decisions, and/or transmitting final versions of accepted manuscripts to the publisher.
  • Manages the editorial workflow of each issue including article tracking, copyediting, proofreading, communications with reviewers, authors, editors and the Publisher.
  • Manages special sections, coordinates with editors, authors, and publisher to meet production schedule(s).
  • Manages cross-journal transfers from other AGA journals to TIGE and GHA, including initiating the transfer within the manuscript tracking system, answering author questions, and tracking transferred material.
  • Contributes to the creation and analysis of readership surveys.
  • Contributes to the development of quarterly and annual reports.
  • Manages the journals' presence on the journals’ websites site by uploading content and ensuring information presented is up to date.
  • Reviews and approves galley proofs provided by the publisher according to established criteria.
  • Advises the Editor and Board of Editors on matters related to production, scheduling, format, journal metrics and editorial development. Supports the Board of Editors at meetings and during teleconferences.
  • Serves as chief liaison between the Publisher and the Editor.
  • Assists in search for new editor and oversees transition process including establishing timelines, conducting training and orientation meetings, and monitoring progress.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree, or higher, preferably in English, journalism, science, or related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • At least 4 years of progressively responsible experience in scholarly publications, preferably with biomedical or clinical journals, including proven editorial and production skills; experience using online manuscript management system preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications skills.
  • Highly adaptable and flexible, with the ability to pivot quickly and think critically to address challenges and opportunities.
  • Highly organized with an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and use sound judgment to solve problems.
  • Understanding of scholarly research process and researcher-authors.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
