Prospect ResearcherThe Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County (NHMLAC) include the Natural History Museum in Exposition Park, La Brea Tar Pits in Hancock Park, and the William S. The NHMLAC is seeking a Prospect Researcher for our Advancement department. The Prospect Researcher reports to the Senior Director, Advancement Systems and Prospect Strategy, the Prospect Researcher is responsible for creating, implementing, and evaluating the multi-year prospect development plan including prospect research, portfolio management, and prospect development data analytics for the Natural History Museum Los Angeles County.

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
  1. Develop a robust donor pipeline for annual, planned, major, and capital campaign gifts and strategically assign prospects to fundraisers based on proactive prospect research.

  2. Perform proactive and reactive prospect research that is timely, accurate, and cogent through data mining and utilizing qualitative data to establish capacity, recommend areas of interest for qualification, and propose action plans for success.

  3. Analyze, interpret, and share biographic, business, and financial information on individuals and/or corporations and foundations based on fundraising strategies and objectives.

  4. Consistently record all research in the database and/or Advancement files.

  5. Serve as primary point person for various research platforms.

  6. Drive effective fundraiser portfolio management through data maintenance and analysis, and training fundraisers on moves management best practices.

  7. Develop and maintain prospect ratings systems including capacity analysis, propensity to give, and affinity scoring.

  8. Oversee the fundraisers' management of opportunities and gift cycle status of all assigned prospects to keeр them moving through the pipeline and ensure that each advancement officer has sufficient prospects to meet fundraising goals.

  9. Conduct regular portfolio consultations with each fundraiser to provide metrics and advise on portfolio health using data analytics and visualization.

  10. Attend prospect strategy meetings and create framework for future prospect management and pipeline meetings.

  11. Maintain, update, and administer prospect research and portfolio management policies and procedures.

  12. Stay up to date on current best practices in prospect development and advise Advancement department on these practices.

  13. Train Advancement department on prospect development systems and procedures such as contact report entry and opportunity management.

This position has the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • Experience conducting research in a fundraising environment preferred, as is familiarity with recent trends in philanthropy.

  • Solid experience with PC based computing and commonly used software, including MS Word, MS Excel, G Suite, and experience with research databases, i.e. LexisNexis Development Pro, iWave, Foundation Directory Online.

  • Ability to write, review and edit copy using contemporary business grammar, punctuation, and spelling rules with accuracy, consistency, and clarity.

  • Discretion and the ability to exercise good judgment in handling confidential and sensitive information.

The salary range for this position is $77,430.00 - $83,258.56 yearly. This is a full time regular, exempt position.
