Note: All job offers are contingent upon Human Resources final approval Position Information Job Title: Orange Media Network (OMN) Summer Barometer News Editor 2025 Appointment Type: Student Employee Position Details: Appointment Percent: 100% Basis: 12 months Pay Details: Hourly Rate: $14.70 (Standard); $13.70 (Non-Urban); $15.95 (Portland Metro) Max Rate: $21.00 (Standard); $20.50 (Non-Urban); $21.50 (Portland Metro) Position Summary: This recruitment will fill one part-time (up to 24 hours/week) Summer Barometer News Editor position at Oregon State University (OSU). The editor will collaborate with the editor-in-chief of The Daily Barometer to coordinate and produce content for the print publication and online platforms. The employment dates are from June 16, 2025, to September 9, 2025, with a pay rate of $1,316/month for 20 hours/week. Key Responsibilities: Curate, pitch, assign, edit, and report stories for The Daily Barometer in print and online, including investigations, cover stories, and breaking news. Update and contribute to social media and web content at least five days per week. Assist in completing print editions by deadlines. Be available for flexible hours, including nights and weekends. Provide coaching and feedback to student writers and social media contributors. Plan and hold weekly meetings with the EIC. Assist in hiring, supervising, and managing writers. Attend weekly meetings and work to grow audience engagement. Perform other duties as assigned. Communication and Leadership: Meet regularly with the OMN adviser. Respond promptly to emails, messages, and calls. Follow all OMN policies and promote professional conduct. Ensure content is inclusive and respectful of diverse communities. Eligibility Requirements: Must be enrolled in high school, community college, or university, meeting minimum enrollment standards. Must meet academic standing requirements. International students need to verify full-time status with the Office of International Services. Additional Qualifications: Knowledge of news gathering, fact-checking, and AP Style. Organized, reliable, and a strong communicator. Experience with coaching, feedback, and stakeholder relationships. Minimum 6 months paid or 12 months volunteer experience with OMN. Preferred Qualifications: Previous paid staff experience with Baro or participation in OMN Training Camp.
