Job Description

Troy Regional Medical Center is currently seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and compassionate nursing leader to join our team as the Director of the Senior Behavioral Care Unit (SBCU) . This role oversees the operations of our hospital-based inpatient behavioral health unit for seniors, ensuring excellence in care delivery, regulatory compliance, and alignment with the mission and vision of TRMC.

The Director will manage all clinical and administrative aspects of the SBCU including nursing, social services, activities, and coordination with intake and marketing functions. This individual will work closely with the Medical Director, psychiatric providers, and hospitalist staff to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care for our geriatric population.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 24/7 operational and clinical oversight of the SBCU, including staffing, resource management, and regulatory readiness.

  • Supervise and support nursing staff, social workers, activity coordinators, and collaborate with case management and business development.

  • Serve as a liaison to the Medical Director and psychiatric providers for care planning and quality improvement.

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and hospital policies, and maintain readiness for audits and inspections.

  • Submit and analyze performance improvement data and develop initiatives for patient safety and satisfaction.

  • Actively participate in leadership meetings, hospital committees, and performance improvement efforts.

  • Promote a team-oriented, respectful, and compassionate environment for both patients and staff.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (MSN preferred).

  • Ongoing education in psychiatric nursing strongly preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of bedside clinical experience.

  • Experience in geriatrics and behavioral health preferred.

  • Prior management or leadership experience strongly preferred.

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Current and valid Alabama RN license (required).

  • CPR Certification (required).

  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) Certification (must be obtained within 3 months of hire).

  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Certification (must be obtained within the first year of employment).
