To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements. Basic Requirements: Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. AND Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. AND In addition to the Basic Requirements: Education/Work Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-09 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. GL-09: In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Possession of a master’s degree in professional nursing; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. GS-10: In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet the following requirement: At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Some examples of qualifying experience are: GL-09: Experience with the professional nursing principles and procedures required to provide comprehensive nursing care to medical and/or surgical patients. Experience with using Bureau policy statements, operations memorandums, institution supplements and department procedure guidelines with which to make judgments and decisions. Experience with administration of medications, special procedures and equipment, along with responding and assisting in emergency medical situations. GL-10: Experience administering a wide variety of drugs, normal dosages, routes of administration, therapeutic actions and adverse reactions. Specifically, those drugs required by patients during dialysis. Experience performing medical techniques involved and the operational mechanics of dialysis equipment, chemical testing kits, cardiac monitors, suction, and oxygen administration devices. Experience administering intravenous fluids, IV additives, blood and blood products, and use of A-V fistulas for dialysis. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities. **Your eligibility for consideration will be based on your responses to the questions in the application.**
